Vancouver Chopin Society presents Zlata Chochieva at the Vancouver Playhouse on November 30 at 3 pm

BERLIN-BASED PIANO SENSATION Zlata Chochieva made her Vancouver debut in November of 2019—and it seems like classical aficionados have been talking about the Vancouver Chopin Society concert ever since.

Now, the world-class Russian virtuoso is finally coming back—on the heels of the release of her 2022 album Chiaroscuro, an album that made ingenious connections between Scriabin and Mozart, two composers rarely associated. That follows 2021’s (re)creations, featuring superb renditions of piano transcriptions by Rachmaninoff, Liszt, and Friedman.

The show here is one of several big concerts around the world this year, including stints with the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra, Singapore’s Victoria Concert Hall, and Aarhus Symphony Orchestra, as well as a trip to the Berliner Klavierfestival to perform Rachmaninov for the composer’s 150th anniversary year in 2023.
