Vancouver Symphony Orchestra performs Rachmaninoff’s Second Piano Concerto, February 21 to 23

Vancouver Symphony Orchestra presents Rachmaninoff’s Second Piano Concerto from February 21 to 23. Performances take place at the Orpheum on February 21 at 7 pm as part of the Musically Speaking series; at Centennial Theatre on February 22 at 8 pm as part of the North Shore Classics series; and at the Orpheum on February 23 at 2 pm as part of RGF Integrated Wealth Management Symphony Sundays.

From its soul-stirring opening melody to its heartfelt second movement sampled by the pop hit “All By Myself”, Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto No. 2 needs no introduction. Pianist Alexei Volodin promises a passionate interpretation overpouring with brilliant virtuosity and sweeping romance.

Conductor Daniel Raiskin leads the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra through the program, which also includes Nielsen’s psychologically charged Symphony No. 2, “The Four Temperaments”, and Latvian composer Pēteris Vasks’s “Musica Serena”.
