Schumann Quartet plays a Friends of Chamber Music concert on February 11

Join Friends of Chamber Music for its first concert of 2025 with the impressive Schumann Quartet at the Vancouver Playhouse on February 11 at 7:30 pm.

Recognised for its “high emotional intelligence” and “supreme technical accomplishment” by BBC Music Magazine, this youthful German ensemble comprises the three Schumann brothers—violinists Erik and Ken, and cellist Mark—who have been playing together since childhood. Violist Veit Hertenstein completes the group.

The Schumann Quartet has reached a stage where anything is possible. Each live performance delivered by the group offers intriguing interpretations of timeless works.

The upcoming concert opens with Mozart’s masterly late String Quartet No. 20 in D major, K. 499, “Hoffmeister”. Prokofiev’s outstanding String Quartet No. 1 in B minor, Op. 50, commissioned by the Library of Congress, follows. The program concludes with Smetana’s biographical masterpiece String Quartet No. 1 in E minor, “From My Life”.
