Blueshore at CapU announces 2023-24 season, spanning saxophonist Donny McCaslin and Tibet-born singer Yungchen Lhamo

SAX PLAYER AND composer Donny McCaslin, band director for David Bowie's final album, Blackstar, kicks off BlueShore Financial Centre for the Performing Arts at CapU’s just-announced 2023-24 season.

The genre-defying, Grammy-nominated artist, whose latest jazz-rock opus, I Want More, was produced by the Flaming Lips’ David Fridmann, appears at the North Shore theatre on September 24.

October 10, vocalist Gretchen Parlato and Herbie Hancock guitarist Lionel Loueke hit the same CapU venue as part of the season, performing in English, Portuguese and more, from their new album Lean In.

Over at the Kay Meek Centre in a copresentation on October 13 and 14, Highway 61 Re-imagined finds Barney Bentall, Jim Byrnes, Steve Dawson, Ndidi Onukwulu, Dawn Pemberton, Suzie Ungerleider, Joachim Cooder, Maya de Vitry, and others, gathering to pay tribute to Bob Dylan.

Guitar legend Marc Ribot’s Ceramic Dog hits the BlueShore venue October 16, New York-based Brazilian pianist Henrique Eisenmann plays with CapU Jazz Ensembles October 27, and Eastern-influenced BC septet Naadaleela hits the stage October 21. The violin meets jazz piano with Regina Carter Yungchen Lhamo, the Tibet-born spiritual singer who has performed with Peter Gabriel, Bono, and Paul McCartney, brings her ethereal sounds to CapU January 25, 2023.

The new year also welcomes Band Of Brothers: Levin & La Barbera, Kate McGarry & Keith Ganz with CapU Jazz Ensembles, Justin Adams/Mauro Durante, and Kym Gouchie hit the North Shore venue. Offsite, Le Vent du Nord plays St. James Hall in February, and Sister Jazz Orchestra and Dee Daniels perform at Kay Meek in March.
