THEATRE STAR BERNARD CUFFLING is offering an intimate, inside look at a career that has spanned five amazing decades.

Western Gold Theatre is hosting Cuffling at the PAL Studio Theatre for a fundraising event called You Won’t Believe This, But…, in which audiences will get the chance to hear all about the artist’s life experiences (including his brush with trailblazer Ginger Rogers). Two editions will be held on July 6 at 1 pm and 7 pm.

Born in London in 1945, Cuffling became a Canadian citizen in 1974. Over the years of his storied adventures as an actor, Cuffling has taken on roles that appeal to all sorts of audiences, across stages and screens. He played French nobleman Lafew in All’s Well That Ends Well at Bard on the Beach and cruise-ship cook Nigel Mumford on the late-’90s teen television series Breaker High (which also starred Ryan Gosling). He even voiced Monsieur Treville in the animated fantasy film Barbie and the Three Musketeers.

A member of the BC Walk of Fame, Cuffling is a regular performer at the Arts Club Theatre Company and Western Gold Theatre; most recently, he appeared in Caryl Churchill’s critically acclaimed Here We Go with the latter company. Arts enthusiasts may also remember him from directing and acting in the slow-burning horror story The Woman in Black at the Metro Theatre last fall.

At the beginning of the fundraising event, guests can soak up the summer weather with a glass of Prosecco atop the venue’s garden patio, from which you can see the Burrard Inlet and the North Shore mountains. A selection of curated cheeses, fruits, and desserts will be served. After the group has had a chance to sip, snack, and mingle, everyone will head down to the black-box theatre, where Cuffling will share stories with the crowd during an informal chat.

Tickets to You Won’t Believe This, But… start at $60 each, with the option to add an extra donation. All proceeds will go to Western Gold Theatre.
