Black culture, costume, and dance meet in Ensemble at the Polygon, to March 13

Five short films by contemporary artists call for justice through Black joy and imagination

The Polygon Gallery presents Ensemble from February 23 to March 13 (except March 5), Wednesdays to Sundays from 12 to-5pm, with special after-hours accessibility on Thursdays until 8 pm.

IN ENSEMBLE, FIVE short films by contemporary artists meet at the intersection of Black culture, costume, and dance.

The new series is inspired by themes from the Polygon Gallery’s summer 2021 exhibition, Interior Infinite, which explores masquerade and disguise as strategies for revealing rather than concealing identity.

Created by Nick Cave, Steffani Jemison, Athi-Patra Ruga, Yinka Shonibare CBE RA, and Rhea Storr, the works share in common calls for justice with a visuality that put Black joy, power, and imagination in focus.

Ensemble will play on a 80-minute continuous look during gallery hours. The screening is closed on March 5 when the Polygon hosts Kids First Saturday.
