Flamenco trio Calle Verde dances with light, February 28

The artists introduce a vital fourth member in this DanceLab showing

The Dance Centre presents Calle Verde on February 28 at 5 pm at the Scotiabank Dance Centre as part of DanceLab. 

 

BECAUSE FLAMENCO IS typically performed in relaxed places like bars and clubs, lighting is usually an afterthought. Calle Verde wanted to see what happens when light joins in as an integral performer. 

To find out, the trio—made up of singer-dancer-choreographer Maria Avila, dancer-choreographer Michelle Harding, and guitarist Peter Mole—worked with theatre technician Chengyan Boon during its DanceLab residency at the Dance Centre. 

The artists share what they discovered during this studio showing, which will feature excerpts of work in progress and focus on experimentation, play, and process.
